The experience of the first website left a bad taste in the mouth of the SMWM community -- it was difficult to update, navigation was unclear, and the process of creating it was rocky. As a result it languished, despite its outdated content and visual identity. In mid-2007 I wrote an ambitious plan to make a new site happen by the new year. Through a thoughtful buy-in process, I turned skeptics into believers -- and my site architecture and layout design became the live database-driven site.

This pair of screenwriters had an interesting challenge: create a site that highlighted their expertise (easy!) without showing samples of their work product (hard). Where to place the burden of proof? The battle was won long before layout design began -- in a series of in-depth conversations about brand, audience, and flexibility. The result was not just a website, but an identity in a crowded marketplace and a strategy for how to conduct business going forward.

Over the past ten years, I've evolved -- and so has my website. The first two Stickbook sites were online portfolios of my design work, reflective of my experience at the time. Nowadays I'm more than just a designer, with a need to highlight a much broader range of marketing expertise. Version 3.0 brings together skills new and old: brand strategy, identity and information design, team and network building, simple and effective communication of abstract concepts -- and course, graphic prowess.
